3 to 4 weeks lead time.
    • Spacing Requirement

Plant tuscan kale seedlings about 30cm (12 inches) apart from each other. This spacing allows enough room for the plants to grow and develop their distinctive leaves.

    • Harvest Period

The time to harvest tuscan kale from seedlings typically ranges from 6 to 8 weeks, depending on the variety and growing conditions. You can begin harvesting the outer leaves when they are about 8-10cm (3-4 inches) long, leaving the center leaves to continue growing.

    • Light Requirement

Tuscan kale seedlings thrive in full sunlight, but they can also tolerate partial shade. Provide them with at least 4-6 hours of direct sunlight daily. If you're growing them indoors, ensure they receive 10-12 hours of light under a growth light or place them near a sunny window.

    • Soil

Choose well-draining soil for your tuscan kale seedlings. The soil should be rich in organic matter and have a pH level between 6.0 and 7.5. Amending the soil with compost or well-rotted manure before planting will provide essential nutrients and promote healthy growth.

    • Water Requirement

Keep the soil consistently moist. Tuscan kale seedlings prefer regular watering, especially during hot and dry periods. Ensure the soil remains evenly moist but not waterlogged. Water at the base of the plants to prevent wetting the foliage, which can lead to fungal issues.

    • Fertiliser Application

Tuscan kale benefits from a nutrient-rich soil. Before planting, incorporate a balanced fertilizer into the soil following the recommended application rates. As the seedlings grow, you can side-dress them with compost or apply a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 3-4 weeks to provide ongoing nourishment.

    • EC and pH Monitoring (Hydroponics)

Regularly monitor the Electrical Conductivity (EC) and pH levels of the nutrient solution. Tuscan kale seedlings prefer an EC range between 1.5 to 2.5 mS/cm and a pH range of 5.5 to 6.5. Adjust the nutrient solution as needed to maintain these levels throughout the growth cycle.

    • Pests and Diseases Control

Keep an eye out for common pests like aphids, cabbage worms, and flea beetles. Inspect your tuscan kale seedlings regularly and take appropriate measures to protect them from pests.

    • Weather Protection

Tuscan kale is a cold-hardy vegetable, but young seedlings may need protection from extreme cold. Consider using row covers or cloths to shield the seedlings during chilly nights.
