Swiss Chard Seedling, 80mm Net Pot, 8 pcs
Spacing Requirement
Plant Swiss chard seedlings about 20-30cm (8-12 inches) apart in rows spaced 40-45cm (16-18 inches) apart. This spacing ensures proper air circulation and sunlight exposure, promoting healthy growth and reducing the risk of diseases.
Harvest Period
Swiss chard can be harvested 50-60 days after planting seedlings, depending on the variety. Baby leaves can be picked as early as 30 days, offering continuous harvesting throughout the season.
Light Requirement
Swiss chard thrives in full sunlight, requiring at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily. It can tolerate partial shade but may grow less vigorously. For indoor growth, ensure a 12-hour light cycle under grow lights.
Soil
Plant in fertile, well-draining soil with a pH between 6.0 and 7.0. Swiss chard prefers soil enriched with compost or well-rotted manure to support its nutrient needs.
Water Requirement
Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Swiss chard benefits from regular watering, especially during dry periods. Water at the base of the plants to prevent fungal diseases.
Fertiliser Application
Incorporate a balanced fertilizer into the soil before planting. As the plants grow, side-dress with compost or apply a nitrogen-rich fertilizer every 3-4 weeks to encourage leafy growth.
EC and pH Monitoring (Hydroponics)
Swiss chard prefers an EC range of 1.8 to 2.3 mS/cm and a pH range of 6.0 to 6.5 in hydroponic systems. Regularly monitor and adjust the nutrient solution to maintain these levels.
Pests and Diseases Control
Watch for pests like leaf miners, aphids, and slugs, which can damage Swiss chard. Ensure good air circulation to prevent diseases such as downy mildew. Use natural pest deterrents or organic solutions to address infestations promptly.
