Sweet Basil Seedling, 80mm Net Pot, 8 pcs
Spacing Requirement
Plant sweet basil seedlings about 15-30cm (6-12 inches) apart in rows spaced 30-45cm (12-18 inches) apart. Proper spacing ensures good air circulation, reducing the risk of fungal diseases and promoting healthy growth.
Harvest Period
Sweet basil is ready for harvest 45-60 days after planting seedlings. Regular harvesting of leaves—starting with the larger, outer leaves—encourages bushy growth and prolongs the plant’s productive life.
Light Requirement
Sweet basil thrives in full sunlight, needing at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily. For indoor cultivation, provide a 12-16 hour light cycle using grow lights for optimal growth and leaf production.
Soil
Plant sweet basil in fertile, well-draining soil with a pH between 6.0 and 7.5. Enhance the soil with compost or organic matter before planting to provide the necessary nutrients for vigorous growth.
Water Requirement
Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water the basil plants at the base to avoid wetting the leaves, which can lead to fungal diseases. Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings, especially in cooler conditions.
Fertiliser Application
Apply a balanced, all-purpose fertilizer or compost before planting. During the growing season, feed the plants with a mild liquid fertilizer every 3-4 weeks to support continuous leaf production. Avoid over-fertilizing, as excessive nutrients can reduce the plant’s flavor.
EC and pH Monitoring (Hydroponics)
For hydroponic growth, maintain an EC range of 1.0 to 1.6 mS/cm and a pH range of 5.8 to 6.5. Regularly monitor and adjust the nutrient solution to ensure optimal growth conditions.
Pests and Diseases Control
Monitor for pests such as aphids, whiteflies, and spider mites. To prevent fungal diseases like downy mildew or fusarium wilt, ensure proper spacing, avoid overhead watering, and maintain good air circulation. Use organic insecticidal soap or neem oil to manage pest issues effectively
