Red Sorrel Seedling, 80mm Net Pot, 8 pcs
Spacing Requirement
Plant red sorrel seedlings 20-30cm (8-12 inches) apart in rows spaced 30-45cm (12-18 inches) apart. This spacing ensures good air circulation and allows the plants to spread naturally.
Harvest Period
Red sorrel can be harvested 35-50 days after planting seedlings, depending on the growing conditions. Baby leaves can be harvested earlier for salads, while mature leaves are best suited for cooking.
Light Requirement
Red sorrel thrives in full sun to partial shade, requiring at least 4-6 hours of sunlight daily. In hotter climates, provide some afternoon shade to prevent the leaves from becoming bitter. Indoors, ensure 10-12 hours of light using grow lights.
Soil
Plant red sorrel in fertile, well-draining soil with a pH range of 5.5 to 6.8. Amending the soil with compost or organic matter before planting ensures a nutrient-rich environment for healthy growth.
Water Requirement
Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Red sorrel prefers regular watering, especially during dry periods. Water at the base to avoid wetting the leaves, which can reduce the risk of fungal diseases.
Fertiliser Application
Incorporate compost or a balanced fertilizer into the soil before planting. During the growing season, apply a nitrogen-rich fertilizer every 4-6 weeks to promote lush, leafy growth.
EC and pH Monitoring (Hydroponics)
For hydroponic systems, maintain an EC range of 1.2 to 1.8 mS/cm and a pH range of 5.8 to 6.5. Monitor and adjust the nutrient solution regularly to support healthy development.
Pests and Diseases Control
Monitor for pests such as aphids, slugs, and caterpillars, which can feed on red sorrel leaves. Prevent fungal diseases like leaf spot or powdery mildew by ensuring proper spacing and avoiding overhead watering. Use organic pest control methods, such as neem oil or insecticidal soap, to manage infestations.
