Purple Oxalis Seedling, 80mm Net Pot, 8 pcs
Spacing Requirement
Plant purple oxalis bulbs or seedlings about 10-15cm (4-6 inches) apart. Proper spacing allows room for their foliage to spread and ensures adequate air circulation, reducing the risk of fungal diseases.
Harvest Period
For purple oxalis, the tubers are typically ready for harvest 6-9 months after planting, depending on the growing conditions. Harvest after the foliage dies back, indicating maturity.
Light Requirement
Purple oxalis plants thrive in bright, indirect sunlight. They can tolerate partial shade but may grow less vigorously. In hot climates, protect them from harsh afternoon sun. Indoors, place them near a bright window with filtered light or provide grow lights for 10-12 hours daily.
Soil
Plant purple oxalis in light, well-draining soil with a pH range of 5.5 to 7.0. Amending the soil with compost or organic matter helps retain moisture and provides essential nutrients. Avoid heavy, compacted soils, which can lead to poor drainage.
Water Requirement
Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Purple oxalis is sensitive to overwatering, which can cause root rot, so ensure proper drainage. During dormancy (when foliage dies back), reduce watering significantly.
Fertiliser Application
Feed purple oxalis with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength every 4-6 weeks during its active growing season. Avoid over-fertilizing, as it can lead to excessive foliage growth at the expense of flowers or tubers.
EC and pH Monitoring (Hydroponics)
For hydroponic systems, maintain an EC range of 1.0 to 1.5 mS/cm and a pH range of 5.8 to 6.5. Monitor nutrient levels regularly to ensure healthy growth and vibrant foliage.
Pests and Diseases Control
Purple oxalis is relatively pest-resistant but can occasionally be affected by aphids, spider mites, or mealybugs. Use insecticidal soap or neem oil to manage pests. Avoid overly wet conditions to prevent fungal diseases like root rot or powdery mildew.
